A commonly used filler is hyaluronic acid; a natural component of our body. Its key function is the binding of water, making hyaluronic acid a very safe and non-permanent filler with a minimal chance of side effects.
Hyaluronic acid is used to reduce wrinkles or add volume to parts of the face and lips, such as the filling of the nose-lip fold, correcting sagging corners of the mouth, increasing lip volume, filling the so-called smoking lines in the upper lip or accentuating the cheekbones. The bridge of the nose can also be treated with hyaluronic acid to correct dents or bumps.
The effects of hyaluronic acid are temporary. The body naturally breaks it down within one to two years. As soon as the effect decreases, the treatment can be repeated.
